Notts Police Skate / Bmx Park

17/06/2011

A Police officer from Nottinghamshire Police has been succesfull in obtaining funding from Capitol One and purchased a mobile Skate/Bmx Park, similar to the one shown below.

On speaking to KAGEuk, the officer said " The park can be located in loads of different places in and around the city of nottingham. It is not just restricted for indoors, it can be used out doors on grassed areas so that young people of all ages can bring their bmx bikes along and have a good time. "

He added "  The idea is to get young people out and engaging in team building, physical activities and also reducing the reputation that so many young people have when they are standing on street corners, however, not everyone wants to play football, and there are so many young people that are interested in Skate boarding, Roller Skating and Bmxing that it seemed the perfect solution"

Already the park has been used with great success, KAGEuk spoke to Ben Durnam-Fletcher who is the owner/founder of NISE skateboarding said " What a great idea, so many young people have had bad experiences with the police and this just shows that they want to help young people and by providing this park they will be helping so many. Already i have had young people commenting on the park and are feeling very positive about the police."

When attending one of these Sessions, all the young people will have an input from KAGEuk, this input will be about 20 minutes long but will play an important role in keeping young people safe. KAGEuk said " We understand that young poeple attend these venues to skate and have a good time, but there also needs to be an education side to it as well. If we can speak to as many young people about staying safe at venues like this then that would be fantastic."

Since January 2009 KAGEuk has spoken to over 4000 young people in Nottinghamshire and the numbers are growing, " There have been so many reported and unreported incidents that young people and especially skate boarders have faced that it seems releavnt to speak to them before they do skate" (This was in relation to the incident in DERBY click the link to find out more)
